2 APRIL 2011 A special thanks goes out to Union Fire Co. 41 (Carlisle) and Cumberland Valley Hose Co. 53 (Shippensburg) for providing coverage during our appreciation and awards banquet. TRUCK AND ENGINE ON THE TORNADO INCIDENTS
16 APRIL 2011 On this evening at 2011 hours, a tornado warning was issued for Western York County with reports of a tornado near McSherrystown moving NE at 30 mph. Approx. 15 minutes later, Truck and Engine 1 were dispatched to the West Manchester Mall in the area of the movie theatre for the roof collapse. While enroute, there weremultiple reporst of poles and live wires down in the area. Truck and Engine 1 were redirected to Carlisle Rd. and Brougher Ln. for the damage and destruction in that area. It was discovered that roofs were blown off, billboards were ripped off of their backings, and various things throughout the area were tossed around like toys. The Truck and Engine handled many different locations that night and were all thankful that it wasn't far worse that it could have been. The National Weather Service first declared that it was a Microburst ( a very localized column of sinking air, producing damaging divergent and straight-line winds at the surface that are similar to, but distinguishable from, tornadoes, which generally have convergent damage) but later declared that it was an EF-0 tornado (approx. 85 mph winds).

TRUCK WITH HEAVY SMOKE SHOWING
6 MAY 2011 At 1812 hours, Truck 1 was dispatched to the gas barrels on fire next to the building. Two minutes after dispatch, York County Control advised that they were receiving mutiple calls that the buidling is to be fully involved. Truck 1 called with a minute out with heavy smoke showing and arrived on scene and and advanced a 1 3/4" bumper line to the side door of the structure. Due to worsening conditions of gas barrels and propane cylinders blowing up, the crew from Truck 1 ceased primary attack and a 2 1/2" line was advanced from the exterior. Aerial operations were established to attempt to knock the bulk of the fire volume that was now through the roof. The fire quickly escalated to a 2nd alarm bringing multiple units from across the area including a tanker task force. Crews from Station 1 remained on scene for approx. 4 1/2 hours.

HARMONY GROVE RD. NURSERY FIRE
19 NOV.. 2011 At 0447 hours, Truck 1 was alerted for the barn fire at Trail Nurseries in Dover Twp. Within a few short minutes, the Truck marked up with 6 personnel. Shortly after, Chief 9 called in the area with heavy fire showing calling for the working fire and tanker task force assignment. Truck 1's crew was assigned to fire attack to the rear of the greenhouses. The dense fire volume, cold temperatures, and positioning of the apparatus made it very difficult for firefighters to get a qucik knock on the fire. Throughout the day, crews remained on scene for hot spots and mop up. Truck 1 was released after approx. 4 hours. **A special thanks to Truck 4 (Spring Grove) for their transfer assignment to our quarters.
